The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released a total of ₦397,030,900 as transport allowances for 1,909 officials involved in the conduct of the 2025 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), scheduled for 10 April 2025.
This was disclosed by the Board’s Director of Finance, Mr Mufutau Bello, during a stakeholder meeting in Abuja to assess the board’s readiness for the mock examination and the forthcoming main UTME.
Bello emphasised the critical role of the mock examination in upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s education system. He noted that the disbursed amount represents only the first tranche of payments, covering one-third of the officials participating in the examination process.
“The Mock UTME is a key phase in fulfilling our core mandate, and we must continue to set the standard for excellence,” Bello stated. “The success of this exercise is crucial not only to the credibility of our education system but also to the national reputation of our examination processes. Any lapses could undermine this trust.”
He added that discussions around local travel allowances are often the result of a misunderstanding of the complex logistics involved in managing a nationwide examination.
Staff members at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the smooth and successful execution of both the mock and main UTME across the country.
The 2025 UTME is expected to maintain JAMB’s tradition of transparency and innovation, with the mock examination serving as a preparatory phase to fine-tune logistics and technology ahead of the main exercise.
