The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has announced a N5 million cash reward and a bungalow for Kayode Adewale, a mathematics teacher recently named among the top 50 finalists for the prestigious $1 million Global Teacher Prize.
Adewale, who teaches at Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School, Ogun State, is celebrated for integrating technology into his lessons and delivering them in the local language. His innovative approach has earned him local and international recognition, placing him on the shortlist for the Global Teacher Prize presented annually by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO and GEMS Education.
In a statement released on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Governor Abiodun commended Adewale for his dedication to transforming education and named him Ogun State Education Ambassador. As part of the honor, the governor pledged to provide Adewale with a bungalow in any location of his choice within the state, along with a N5 million cash prize.
“Kayode Adewale has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to educational excellence,” the statement read. “As a state that prides itself as Nigeria’s education capital, we are immensely proud to celebrate one of our own. His humility and dedication to uplifting his community through education embody the values we cherish.”
Governor Abiodun highlighted that Adewale, an alumnus of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, represents the transformative power of education. The teacher had previously won the Best Teacher Award in Ogun State in 2020.
“This global recognition exemplifies selfless and resourceful service,” the governor noted. “To inspire his continued outstanding work, we will reward him with a bungalow and a cash prize. Kayode Adewale’s innovative methods and dedication have earned him acclaim, making him a role model for educators.”
