Professor Segun Aina has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose 10-year tenure ended on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Aina, a professor of Computer Engineering, formally took over the leadership of the examination body during an event at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Aina as JAMB Registrar on May 21, 2026, at the age of 39, making him the youngest person to occupy the position in the history of the board. He turned 40 in July.
Announcing the appointment, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector institutional reform.
Onanuga noted that Aina had also made history as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering before his appointment as JAMB Registrar.
In his inaugural address, Aina pledged to uphold the integrity of JAMB and improve the board’s operations through the increased deployment of modern technology.
He warned those involved in examination malpractice to desist from the practice, stressing that such activities would not be tolerated under his administration.
The new registrar also pledged to strengthen collaboration between JAMB and security agencies to protect the credibility and integrity of the nation’s matriculation examination process.
Aina’s assumption of office marks the beginning of a new administration at JAMB, with expectations that his expertise in digital systems, engineering and institutional reform will contribute to further improvements in the conduct of examinations and the admission process in Nigeria.
