The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has warned newly admitted students that cultism, examination malpractice and other forms of misconduct will attract strict disciplinary sanctions, reaffirming the institution’s zero-tolerance stance against activities capable of undermining its academic integrity.
The warning was delivered by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, during the 2026/2027 matriculation ceremony for 493 newly admitted part-time degree students held at the university’s main campus in Osogbo.
Addressing the matriculating students, Adebooye reminded them that gaining admission into the university marked the beginning of a journey that must be guided by discipline, integrity and responsibility. He stressed that the institution’s regulations are explicit and that offenders would face appropriate sanctions.
“Permit me to emphasise that Osun State University maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of misconduct and anti-social behaviour. Cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, drug abuse, sexual harassment, violence, hooliganism, certificate fraud and every other act capable of undermining the integrity of this University have no place in our academic community.
“Our regulations are clear, and sanctions for violations are strictly enforced. I therefore urge you to uphold the values of honesty, discipline, responsibility and respect for constituted authority throughout your stay in the University,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to approach their academic pursuit with commitment and determination, encouraging them to attend lectures regularly, participate actively in academic activities, complete assignments diligently and build healthy relationships with lecturers and fellow students.
He also advised them to maximise the university’s digital learning resources while cultivating habits of continuous learning, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
“Above all, develop the habit of continuous learning, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity. The knowledge, skills and values you acquire here will define your future and determine the impact you make in society,” Adebooye said.
Highlighting recent achievements, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the university has continued to record significant milestones in improving the academic experience of students under its Centre for Part-Time and Advanced Studies.
He assured the students that the institution would continue to uphold its high academic standards and strengthen its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
The matriculation ceremony comes shortly after Adebooye charged newly admitted postgraduate students of the university to focus on research capable of addressing Nigeria’s developmental challenges.
Speaking during the institution’s 11th postgraduate matriculation ceremony, he encouraged them to remain focused, resilient and purposeful throughout their academic journey, assuring them that their efforts would ultimately be rewarding.
