The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has released a detailed traffic advisory in preparation for its 56th Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled for January 20–22, 2026. The advisory outlines diversion routes, access restrictions, and parking arrangements to manage traffic congestion around the campus and neighboring areas.
Motorists traveling from the Bariga–Somolu axis toward Yaba, Onike, and Herbert Macaulay Way will encounter barricades at Kpako Junction, with traffic diverted to Fola-Agoro Road. Alternative routes include Shobande and Adenuga Kajero Streets, connecting to Bajulaye Road and adjoining areas.
The university has also introduced shuttle services: visitors will be transported from Kpako Bus Stop to the university gate, and from there to the Senate area, where the convocation will take place. Access to Yaba Tech and Abule-Oja is via Fola-Agoro Road, with clear directions provided to avoid congestion.
Motorists traveling from Yaba, Onike, and Herbert Macaulay Way toward Bariga are advised to follow designated diversion routes through Yaba Tech or Lawani Junction. Vehicle owners along Abule-Oja Road are urged to keep cars at home during the convocation due to high traffic volumes.
On-campus traffic will be managed with a colour-coded parking system, dividing spaces into Parks A, B, C, and D. Park A is reserved for VVIPs and VIPs, while other guests are allocated to the remaining parks. Barricades will be reduced this year, and over forty trained undergraduate and postgraduate volunteers, along with traffic marshals, will assist in guiding motorists.
Security and traffic management agencies—including the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority—will be deployed throughout the three-day period. A towing vehicle will also be on standby to remove broken-down or improperly parked vehicles.
UNILAG emphasized that these measures are temporary but necessary to ensure a safe and smooth convocation ceremony.
