Newgate University has sanctioned two lecturers and rusticated five students as part of efforts to uphold academic integrity ahead of its maiden convocation.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sadiq Yussuf, disclosed this during a media briefing, noting that the university had adopted stricter measures against examination malpractice, leading to the disciplinary actions.
He said the convocation, scheduled for December 3, 2025, will mark a major milestone for the institution, with 207 students set to graduate. The graduands include 14 First Class, 81 Second Class Upper, 88 Second Class Lower, and 24 Third Class students. A total of 102 females and 105 males will receive degrees across three faculties.
Yussuf acknowledged that the university—established in May 2022—has faced challenges such as funding, infrastructure gaps, and accreditation hurdles. However, he said the support of management, staff, students, and stakeholders has helped the school achieve steady progress.
He highlighted key achievements, including growth in student population from 350 to nearly 2,000, full NUC accreditation for 10 of its programmes, and professional accreditation for nursing and medical laboratory science.
Other milestones include a 79 per cent pass rate in the recent Nursing Council exams, improved classrooms and laboratories, ICT-driven learning systems, and expanded community outreach initiatives.
