Babcock University officially welcomed its newest cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate students during its 27th and 16th matriculation ceremonies respectively, held at the university’s Amphitheatre in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State. The event marked a significant milestone for the institution and its incoming scholars as they took their matriculation oath, pledging to uphold academic integrity and responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, the President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, described the day as the beginning of a transformative journey for the students. He emphasized that academic success does not happen by chance, urging them to embrace discipline, diligence, and reliance on God.
“Remember, as you begin this phase in your academic journey, that success is never accidental. It requires discipline, diligence and reliance on God. First Class begins with the first class in your 100 level,” he said.
Prof. Tayo highlighted Babcock University’s legacy as a pioneer in private tertiary education in Nigeria, noting that for over two decades, the institution has consistently produced servant leaders making global impact across entrepreneurship, governance, and other fields. He reaffirmed the university’s mission to expand knowledge, nurture responsible leadership, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Despite drawing students from more than 20 countries, Prof. Tayo said Babcock has remained a community united by a commitment to excellence, service, and moral responsibility.
“When your graduation day arrives, you will walk out of this university not only to compete in a dynamic world, but also to lead it,” he assured the students.
The President/VC urged them to avoid distractions and conduct unbecoming of Babcock’s values, stressing the institution’s holistic approach to education — one that combines intellectual development with strong moral grounding.
“Excellence thrives in an environment where students feel safe, supported and inspired. With God at the centre, your journey will not end in failure. Stand tall, work hard, trust God and let excellence define everything you do,” he advised.
Speaking specifically to postgraduate students, Prof. Tayo encouraged them to pursue research that solves real-world problems and improves society. He reminded them of the university’s zero tolerance for cultism, bullying, corruption, hooliganism, and examination malpractice.
“Welcome to BU. This is where your future begins,” he concluded.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Senior Vice President (Academics), Prof. Philemon Amanze, congratulated the matriculating students and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for academic and personal growth.
The ceremony underscored Babcock University’s dedication to shaping principled, innovative, and globally competitive graduates poised to lead change in their communities and beyond.
