The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched an innovative initiative aimed at reducing delays for candidates needing to retake one or two WASSCE papers.
Dubbed WASSCE PC1, this new system will allow students to resit specific subjects in January and February 2025, eliminating the traditional waiting period for the next examination cycle.
John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, described the move as a significant milestone for education in West Africa. “This initiative offers students a timely opportunity to improve their grades and maintain academic progression,” he stated.
Kapi outlined the registration process, noting that students have until January 8, 2025, to register online via WAEC’s website or through accredited internet cafés. The exams will run from January 24 to February 15, 2025.
Initially, the exams will be conducted in regional capitals, as the maiden edition is expected to attract a relatively small number of candidates. Kapi emphasized that this approach ensures efficiency and accessibility for participants.
“Students can now avoid a year-long academic setback, thanks to this initiative,” he added, encouraging prospective candidates to take advantage of the registration period.
It is a nice approach to redeem delay in WAEC examination ,at least one does not need a year to resit his papers ,all he needs to cue into this favourable move and smile home .
All thanks to WAEC board of directors .
It is indeed cheering news and will certainly be a blessing to many going forward. Thank you for reaching out.
Very good initiative.
We think so too
How can I register for WAEC pc1 ?
Simply visit the WAEC website https://registration.waecdirect.org/ and follow the instructions there. All the best.
That’s nice I love the new way
It does make a lot of sense. Thanks for reaching out.
Will I go and write it at same venue, I’m asking for those who had changed location.
Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to advise you on this as we are just an education focused media platform. But please feel free to contact WAEC directly https://registration.waecdirect.org/
We wish you all the best.
I want to sit for this waec resit, but can I add the subject I want to do in the waec resit to my neco
Thank you for reaching out Gideon. We are not in a position to offer any concrete advice regarding this but perhaps you should contact WAEC. https://registration.waecdirect.org/
All the best.
Please I want to resit
Thank you for reaching out. We are not aware if resit information is available yet. As a media organisation, we only put the story out there. We suggest you contact WAEC at https://registration.waecdirect.org/
to enquire about that. All the best
Nice
Truly, it’s a good development.
It’s a good one from WAEC, but is think the publicity was poor for this maiden edition. There are lots of candidates out there who had this challenge and would have loved to key in to write the exam.
They will only get the hear soon after they had missed the charge.
Please! Work on your publicity.
The venue for the exam is also going to be another issue. If you set the centres at regional headquarters for each country, it will be very strenuous.
I’m looking at Nigeria as a case study. If Abuja is the regional headquarters for the country, so a candidate who registered from Borno, Akwa-Ibom, Lagos and Sokoto will have to move down to Abuja for the exams.
1. The distance
2. Accommodation
3. The danger of banditry
We believe WAEC can do better in creating awareness but we are a media organisation that merely puts out information as we receive it. Thank you very much.
Thanks for this great opportunity. Pls I need update on the ffg asap:
1. How do I check the student’s eligibility?
2. How much is WAEC resit option form?

All the best.
Great news. This is not entirely new though because, in the 80s and early 90s, you could sit for only required papers to make up your wassc result, even of its just 1 paper… nothing really new under the sun… but a highly welcomed development to prevent the trauma of rewriting 9 papers including the ones the student already scored As.. Bravo
Thank you very much for reaching out. Yes, you are absolutely right. That is how it was done in the past. We commend WAEC for returning to that. All the best.

Thank you for reaching out. It looks like WAEC is introducing it to Ghana first. We don’t know when it’s going to become available to other West African countries too.
Must I go back to the school I registered the waec from or I just need to get to the nearest centre for the resit.
