Ordega International School, Ibafo, Ogun State has emerged first among 19 participating high schools in the first ever debate conducted under the 2024 Youth Empowerment Programme, an initiative of the University’s Marketing and Communication department.
The programme, aimed at raising the bar of education in the country, had Transatlantic College, Shagamu, clinching the second prize while the Ikorodu campus of the Ordega International School went home with the third prize. Sixteen others had consolation prizes. “Aside honing the analytical and reasoning skills of the youths, the event is also a platform for improving participants’ knowledge of Babcock University and her core values,” said the Senior Vice President management Services, Prof. Yacob Haliso represented by the Director
of Marketing and Communication, Dr. Joshua Suleiman. In her paper, Tomorrows’ World An Ideal Student for, the guest lecturer and head of Economics department, Dr. Esther Lawal urged the students to work towards standing tall among global leaders. According to her, ideal students always strive towards excellence, respect for teachers and peers, self-discipline as well as taking responsibilities. “Without a good character, attitudes or behaviour, scoring good grades alone does not make any one an ideal student,” she said. “As students, work towards standing tall among global leaders that are shaping the world. She listed other qualities as being firm, determined, thankful and disciplined in managing time.
Highlight of the event included a musical rendition by the students of Ordega International School, Ibafo and the Babcock University’s Music and Creative Arts department.
