Dear Student,
With just 17 days to go before you sit for the UTME, I want to remind you that it’s not too late to improve and shine. As a teacher who has worked with hundreds of students like you, I’ve seen the difference that smart, intentional preparation can make—even in the final stretch. Here are 15 practical and simple tips that can help you score 250 and above.
1. Set a Daily Target
Break your reading into daily tasks. Don’t just say, “I want to study Chemistry today.” Be specific: “Today, I’ll study Organic Chemistry and answer 20 past questions.”
2. Wake Up Early
Start your day early. Your brain is fresher in the morning. Use that early energy to tackle your toughest subjects first.
3. Use the JAMB Syllabus
Download or check the JAMB syllabus for each subject. It tells you exactly what topics you’ll be tested on. No guesswork.
4. Practice with Past Questions
Solve as many past questions as possible. JAMB repeats question patterns. Time yourself when solving them—practice like it’s the real exam.
5. Study Smart, Not Hard
Don’t just read textbooks from cover to cover. Focus on topics that come up often in past questions. Use summary books and simplified materials.
6. Mix Subjects When Studying
Don’t study only one subject all day. Study a science subject in the morning, English in the afternoon, and revise a different one in the evening.
7. Take Short Breaks
Study for 1–1.5 hours, then take a 10–15 minute break. It helps your brain reset. Don’t overwork yourself.
8. Revise English Every Day
English is compulsory for everyone and makes up a big chunk of your score. Focus on comprehension, lexis and structure, and summary passages.
9. Master Time Management
In the exam hall, you won’t have time to waste. So, when you practice, time yourself. Learn to answer quickly and move on.
10. Use a Timer App
Use UTME CBT practice apps that simulate the real exam experience. Familiarity will reduce panic on the day of the test.
11. Don’t Cram, Understand
Cramming might work for a test, but understanding helps you retain knowledge. Especially for subjects like Biology and Government.
12. Group Discussions Help
Join or create a small study group (online or offline). Teach others what you’ve read. If you can explain a topic clearly, you know it.
13. Cut Down on Social Media
Social media can be a huge distraction. Limit your time on it or use it wisely—follow educational pages and join serious UTME study groups.
14. Use Flashcards or Notes
Write down formulas, definitions, or keywords on flashcards. Revise them during free time—like when waiting for food or during a short break.
15. Pray and Stay Positive
Lastly, don’t let fear hold you back. Believe in your preparation. Pray if you’re a person of faith, stay positive, and walk into that exam hall confidently.
Bonus Tip: Sleep Well Sleep at least 6–8 hours daily. Tired brains don’t perform well. Avoid all-nighters; they do more harm than good.
Final Word from Your Teacher:
You don’t have to know everything. Focus on what’s important, study smart, and avoid panic. Keep going—you’ve got this! The goal is possible.
Wishing you 250+ and above. Let’s celebrate your success soon!
