University of Technology Akure FUTA Professor Adenike Oladiji has commended the Deji of Akure kingdom Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi Odundun II on his sterling leadership qualities, contributions to the development of the University and his pivotal role in maintaining the peace and prosperity of Ondo State.
She gave the commendation during the Colloquium organized as part of activities marking the 10th anniversary of the coronation anniversary of the royal father held on the 16th of July 2025 at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium of FUTA.
Professor Oladiji said ” Your reign has brought tremendous positive change to the people of Akure and the Federal University of Technology Akure is not left out as part of the beneficiaries of your magnanimity and astute leadership acumen.
Your critical and valuable contribution to the establishment and take off of the FUTA Teaching Hospital and College of Health Sciences is a testament to the value you place on education and development of your domain”.
The Vice Chancellor further said ” Our Progressive Royal Father has played notable roles in making the university thrive and have also provided a most conducive environment for staff and students . Your contributions to tertiary education in Nigeria is worthy of emulation and through your worthy record of service so far you have shown the importance of traditional institutions in supporting the education sector in Nigeria “.
Corroborating the Vice Chancellor , the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde said that the role of traditional institutions in promoting societal development can not be overemphasized.
Speaking on the topic: The Roles of Nigeria s Traditional institutions in nation building: Impediments, Impacts, and prosperity, he said “The role of traditional institutions in nation-building is multifaceted and significant, particularly in countries with diverse cultural heritage like Nigeria.
These institutions have been instrumental in maintaining peace and order, promoting cultural preservation, and contributing to community development. Integrating traditional institutions into the formal governance framework is essential to maximize their potential. This can be achieved through capacity building, policy frameworks, and financial empowerment. By working together, traditional institutions and government authorities can promote unity, stability, and cooperation among diverse groups, ultimately contributing to nation-building”
Other dignitaries at the event paid glowing tributes to the royal father while wishing him many more fruitful years of peaceful reign.
