Primary school pupils in six Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have until October 31, 2026, to submit entries for a dairy essay competition organised by the Danish Dairy Board.
The maiden edition of the competition, held under the Choose Milk Campaign, targets pupils in Primary 4 to Primary 6, aged between nine and 11 years, in Enugu, Kaduna, Lagos, Rivers, Oyo and the FCT.
The competition, which commenced on September 15, aims to promote consumer education among children and improve their understanding of the differences between milk and creamers, as well as the role of milk in children’s nutrition.
To participate, pupils are required to write a short letter addressed to their school headmaster or headmistress on the topic, “How Students in My School Can Differentiate Between Milk and Creamers”.
Entries are to be submitted through the Choose Milk Campaign website before the October 31 deadline.
Speaking at the unveiling of the competition, the Senior Project Manager of the Danish Dairy Board, Lars Jensen, said the initiative was designed to equip children with practical knowledge about milk and dairy products while encouraging them to share what they learn with their peers and families.
Jensen said children were not merely consumers but could also influence food choices and purchasing decisions within their households.
“Through this competition, we want to equip pupils with simple, practical knowledge that helps them understand the difference between milk and creamers and appreciate the nutritional value of milk,” he said.
He added that helping children make informed choices from an early age could enable them to pass the knowledge on to their families and communities.
The initiative is also expected to raise awareness of the nutritional benefits of milk and help pupils identify the differences between milk and creamers.
Jensen said the competition would be expanded to more states as the three-year Choose Milk Campaign progresses.
The organisers expect the initiative to encourage children to develop a better understanding of dairy products and make informed decisions about their nutritional choices.
