At least 3,000 pupils across nursery, primary, and secondary schools in Lagos State have benefitted from the Foundation of Truth Assembly’s (FOTA) annual Back-to-School outreach.
The fifth edition of the programme, tagged *Back to School 5.0*, took place in Ajah and saw children receive school bags, exercise books, pencils, pens, and other essential learning materials.
Speaking at the event, Lead Pastor of FOTA, Pedro Omontuemhen, explained that the initiative was created to ease the financial burden on parents and to support children as they prepare for a new school year.
“We have been running this project for the past five years, and this year’s plan was to reach 3,000 pupils,” Omontuemhen said. “There is no religious basis for selection. It is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, and we maintain orderliness with the help of police, security personnel, and our volunteers. Beyond giving material support, this initiative is also part of our broader mission of spreading Christ’s love.”
Beneficiaries expressed their appreciation. Faith Lucky, a JSS 3 student, said: “I feel very happy for this gift. God bless the church because this is my second time receiving a school bag from them.”
Similarly, Sarah Jesse, a Basic 6 pupil, said: “I’m very excited to have this bag. I pray that God will continue to bless the church to give more to others.”
Coordinator of the programme, Iyoha Oluwatoyin, described the initiative as a gesture that cuts across religion and ethnicity.
“It is our way of giving back to society and cushioning the economic pressure on parents,” Oluwatoyin noted. “Beyond the materials, our hope is that this act of kindness will inspire people and draw them closer to God.”
