At the 2025 United Nations General Assembly, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, attended the launch of the 5th Financing Campaign of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) 2026–2030.
Co-hosted by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR of Nigeria and H.E. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, this high-level side event underscored a vital truth: education is not a peripheral agenda—it is the very heart of sustainable development, peace, and prosperity.
During the event, Dr. Alausa joined global leaders and partners on a panel discussion to reflect on the importance of transforming education systems and the power of partnerships to deliver quality education for every child.
Nigeria continues to face significant challenges, including one of the world’s largest out-of-school children populations. Addressing this is a cornerstone of the National Education Sector Reform and Innovation (NESRI) 6-point agenda. Through NESRI, the Ministry is expanding access, strengthening teacher recruitment and training, promoting inclusive and safe schools, and leveraging technology for learning recovery and improved outcomes.
In his remarks at the side event, Dr. Alausa, called upon all partners—governments, development agencies, the private sector, and civil society—to invest in education as the most powerful driver of stability, innovation, and shared prosperity.
The GPE 2026–2030 Replenishment Campaign represents a pivotal opportunity to mobilize the political will and resources needed to ensure that millions more children not only go to school—but also learn. Together, this replenishment cycle can become the turning point for global education.
