Two students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been honoured as inaugural recipients of the Morehead-Cain Global Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill), USA.
However, the university of Lagos has lauded the two scholars, Mr. Fadilullahi Ayodeji Adeniyi and Miss Eniola Salawu were the only ones selected out of four Nigerians that applied for the prestigious selection.
According to a statement from the UNILAG official website, Fadilullahi, a 300-Level student of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, has a proven track record of academic excellence and innovation. His notable achievements include:
He is a 2024 Bridge Fellow and volunteers as a Chemistry tutor for public school students. Driven by a passion for educational equity, Fadilullahi currently serves as a Research Assistant in the Lin Ma Research Group, contributing to pioneering work on sustainable energy storage. His research focuses on sodium-ion batteries as scalable, safer, and more affordable alternatives to lithium-ion technology as he aims to bridge engineering and education in support of Nigeria’s transition to clean energy.
The statement continues: “Eniola, from the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Sciences, is an active member of the UNILAG Investment Society. In December 2024, she was selected as a Bridge Fellow and elected Deputy Governor of her cohort. She also received the CFA Accelerate Institute Scholarship through Cowrywise, boosting her career in finance and investment”
“Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, Eniola is committed to mentorship and education. She teaches ATS and ICAN students at Legacy Professional Tutors, helping to build the next generation of accounting professionals.”
Finally, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of the university’s management, staff, and students, celebrated Mr. Fadilullahi Ayodeji Adeniyi and Miss Eniola Salawu on this laudable feat and expressed her wish for continued success in their noticeable journey at UNC-Chapel Hill.
