The Chairman of the Governing Board, University of Calabar, Dr. Udom Ekpoudom, has expressed confidence that the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Effanga Offiong, will move the institution to greater heights.
Speaking on Tuesday, Ekpoudom said the selection process was rigorous and transparent, describing Prof. Offiong as the best choice for the job.
“The current Vice Chancellor will complete her tenure at the end of November, and the new one will take over immediately after. The selection process was long and competitive, involving over 20 professors, but we ensured only the most qualified emerged,” he said.
He noted that the screening committee—comprising members from both the university senate and council—worked diligently to ensure fairness.
“People are happy that the best man was elected. Prof. Offiong has been a Professor for over 20 years, served as a commissioner in Cross River State, and has an excellent record. From what we know of him, he will not let us down,” Ekpoudom added.
He praised the new VC’s leadership style, describing him as intelligent, fair, and accommodating to all, regardless of origin.
