The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has confirmed the disbursement of institutional loans to 1,062 students of Niger Delta University (NDU), Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. The loan, released on November 10, 2025, forms part of the federal government’s ongoing initiative to enhance access to higher education and provide financial relief to students from low-income backgrounds across the country.
In a statement issued by NELFUND, the agency acknowledged the completion of payment to the beneficiaries after due verification of student records and institutional compliance. The fund emphasized that the initiative is aimed at ensuring that no Nigerian student is denied the opportunity to pursue tertiary education due to financial constraints, adding that the loan covers tuition fees and other essential academic expenses.
NELFUND further reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the loan disbursement process, assuring that more institutions would be added in subsequent phases.
The management of Niger Delta University also commended the federal government for the intervention, noting that it would significantly reduce financial burdens on students and their families while encouraging academic focus and performance.
