The Republic of Congo has taken another step toward strengthening digital education with the inauguration of a new multimedia room at Lycée Denis Sassou N’Guesso, Abala, in the Nkéni-Alima department.
The facility was officially commissioned on December 15, 2025, during a ceremony attended by the Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, Léon Juste Ibombo; Vice-Chair of the Board of the Fund for Access to and Universal Service in Electronic Communications (FASUCE), Yves Ickonga; the Administrator-Mayor of Abala, Albert Itoua; alongside local authorities and education stakeholders.
The multimedia room was implemented under the FASUCE framework and delivered through the Postal and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority (ARPCE), the Fund’s managing body. Designed as a modern, connected learning space, the facility supports national efforts to promote digital inclusion and reduce technology gaps in secondary education.
The project forms part of a wider initiative that has seen 30 multimedia rooms deployed nationwide, aimed at improving teaching conditions and access to digital learning tools. In Abala, the new facility is expected to benefit nearly 90 students, helping them develop digital skills and improve academic outcomes.
Speaking at the event, Minister Ibombo described the project as a reflection of the government’s commitment to youth development and educational advancement. He also announced that Lycée Denis Sassou N’Guesso will graduate its first set of baccalaureate students from Abala and neighbouring communities during the current academic year.
In his remarks, Yves Ickonga reaffirmed FASUCE’s goal of positioning Congo among Africa’s top five countries in universal service delivery, stressing that sustained investment in quality infrastructure and innovation remains essential. He added that the multimedia room will help create equal learning opportunities while exposing students to global knowledge and innovation.
Representing the students, final-year pupil Atipo Sametone expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the facility would significantly enhance learning. He pledged the students’ commitment to academic excellence, with the aim of achieving a 100 per cent success rate in the 2026 baccalaureate examinations.
The Abala project aligns with the national digital development agenda outlined in Law No. 9 of November 25, 2009, which guarantees equitable access to essential digital services. So far, FASUCE has equipped 211 sites across 203 localities, benefiting an estimated 385,000 Congolese citizens, reinforcing the country’s drive toward digital inclusion and sovereignty.
