The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that Nigeria’s 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Friday during a press conference in Abuja. He added that governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections would take place on March 6, 2027.
According to him, the commission has concluded work on the election timetable and schedule of activities, despite concerns over the delayed amendment of the Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
INEC had earlier indicated on February 4 that it had finalised preparations for the timetable and submitted it to lawmakers. However, the commission cautioned that certain aspects of the schedule could be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed.
The announcement comes amid heightened political activities across the country, with major parties already intensifying preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
