The Centre for the Deaf commemorated 60 years of deaf education in The Bahamas with a special banquet held on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
The event, organised in collaboration with key sponsor The Bahamas Red Cross, celebrated six decades of commitment by educators, stakeholders and supporters to advancing education and inclusion for members of the deaf community.
Permanent Secretary Lorraine Armbrister and other ministry officials attended the ceremony, demonstrating the Ministry’s continued support for deaf education initiatives.
The programme featured a range of performances, including a dance presentation with hearing-impaired performers, heartfelt tributes from former students, and a moving song interpretation expressed through dance and sign language.
In her remarks, Armbrister reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to strengthening and sustaining the work of the Centre for the Deaf, highlighting the importance of inclusive education and equal opportunities for all learners.
