The Government of Ghana has granted policy approval for the establishment of a teacher training college at Ezinlibo in the Jomoro Municipality, as part of efforts to expand access to tertiary education in the Western Region.
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, disclosed this at a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company. He noted that Government, through the Ministry of Education and in collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, has a compelling case to support the initiative. He further indicated that the establishment of the college will be undertaken in partnership with Ghana Gas as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to support educational development in the region.
Speaking at the meeting, the CEO of Ghana Gas, Miss Judith Adjoaba Blay, explained that the engagement followed a proposal submitted by the Nzema Academia and Educationalist Association for the establishment of the institution. She stated that the meeting was to discuss the policy direction and broader framework of the project ahead of a technical engagement, where the scope and key requirements for implementation will be further outlined.
The Minister emphasized that the approval represents a policy decision to establish the teacher training college in 2027, subject to the availability of resources through the Ghana Education Trust Fund.
