The Federal Ministry of Finance has organised an entrepreneurship development programme for students of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, to equip them with practical skills for self-employment and wealth creation.
The programme, held on Thursday at the institution’s Education Trust Fund (ETF) Hall, focused on promoting entrepreneurship as a tool for tackling unemployment and driving economic growth.
Speaking at the event, a representative of the ministry, Mr Yekini Olajuwon, said the initiative was aimed at encouraging innovation, creativity and job creation among young Nigerians.
He described entrepreneurship as the ability to identify problems and develop sustainable solutions, urging students to cultivate the right mindset and collaborate with others to build successful enterprises.
Olajuwon advised aspiring entrepreneurs to identify viable business opportunities, conduct market research, prepare workable business plans, secure start-up capital and choose suitable business locations, whether physical or online.
He also stressed the importance of consistency, innovation and effective marketing in sustaining business growth, noting that entrepreneurs must continually improve their products and services to remain competitive.
The ministry’s representative encouraged students to begin developing their business ideas while in school, build networks with like-minded individuals and leverage digital platforms to promote their innovations and expand their businesses.
The programme forms part of the Federal Ministry of Finance’s efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths and equip students with practical skills for self-reliance after graduation.
