The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has warned the public against a fake document circulating online that requests NERDC Disowns Fake Appeal for Funds to Print Revised Basic Education Curriculum support for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum for the 2026/2027 academic session.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, described the document as fake, unauthorised and misleading, stressing that the Council did not issue any correspondence seeking financial assistance from government agencies, educational institutions, development partners or private organisations.
“Our attention has been drawn to fictitious and frivolous documents purportedly emanating from NERDC requesting financial support for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum,” Shehu said.
He explained that NERDC has already made adequate arrangements for the production, printing, dissemination and distribution of the revised curriculum through the appropriate federal and state education authorities and agencies.
According to him, there is no need for any individual or organisation to solicit funds on behalf of the Council for the exercise.
The NERDC boss urged ministries, departments and agencies, educational institutions, development partners and members of the public to disregard any document claiming to originate from the Council requesting financial support.
He also assured stakeholders that all official information regarding the revised curriculum would only be communicated through NERDC’s authorised communication channels.
The disclaimer comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to reform Nigeria’s education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
NERDC recently completed the review of the Basic Education Curriculum, introducing updates aimed at strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, civic values and other 21st-century skills.
The revised curriculum is scheduled for implementation during the 2026/2027 academic session as part of broader reforms by the Federal Ministry of Education to improve teaching, learning and educational outcomes across the country.
