Citibank Nigeria Limited, in partnership with Junior Achievement Nigeria, has trained no fewer than 100 students in financial literacy as part of activities marking its annual Global Community Day.
The training, held in Lagos, focused on budgeting, saving and responsible financial decision-making, with volunteers from Citibank and JAN leading practical sessions for the students.
The sessions exposed the students to practical approaches to managing money and making informed financial decisions.
Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Citibank Nigeria Limited, Nneka Enwereji, said the bank’s Global Community Day activities were designed to improve financial capability and promote inclusive economic growth.
“Through Global Community Day, we continue to invest in initiatives that expand financial capability and support inclusive economic growth. Our collaboration with Junior Achievement Nigeria enables us to deliver meaningful, practical learning experiences that equip young people with the tools to succeed,” she said.
Also speaking, the Acting Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, Olaolu Akogun, said financial education was essential to preparing young people for economic challenges.
“At Junior Achievement Nigeria, we are committed to equipping young people with the skills and mindset needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy. Our longstanding partnership with Citi continues to create meaningful opportunities for students to gain practical financial knowledge and build confidence in their future,” he said.
Citi said Global Community Day is an annual initiative through which its employees, alumni, family and friends participate in community activities.
The bank added that its partnership with organisations such as JAN forms part of its broader community development and youth empowerment efforts, assuring that it would continue to support programmes focused on financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
The initiative aligns with two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4, which focuses on quality education, and SDG 8, which promotes decent work and economic growth.
