The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2026 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, recording an 81.24 per cent pass rate in the core five-credit benchmark.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Dr Aminu Mohammed, announced the results on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at a press conference in Benin City, Edo State.
According to Mohammed, 79,503 candidates, representing 81.24 per cent of the 97,863 candidates graded, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
The performance represents a significant improvement from the 2025 examination, when 61,104 candidates, representing 68.18 per cent, achieved the same benchmark.
Mohammed described the improvement as encouraging, attributing it to the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and other stakeholders in the education system.
91.53% record five credits and above
Beyond the five-credit benchmark including English and Mathematics, the Registrar disclosed that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 per cent of those graded, obtained five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.
This also represents an improvement from the 83.28 per cent recorded under the same category in 2025.
24,128 candidates certified as craftsmen
The results also showed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65 per cent of those graded, were certified as craftsmen.
NABTEB said a total of 100,069 candidates registered for the 2026 examinations, while 97,867 candidates sat for the examinations, representing a 97.80 per cent attendance rate.
The results were released 52 days after the last examination paper, with the NABTEB management describing the turnaround time as part of its commitment to timely service delivery.
NABTEB records decline in examination malpractice
The board also reported a decline in examination malpractice.
According to the Registrar, 847 candidates were involved in examination malpractice, involving 1,554 incidents, representing 1.55 per cent of candidates who sat for the examinations.
Mohammed said the figure was lower than that recorded in 2025, adding that measures introduced by the board to curb examination malpractice were yielding positive results.
Candidates warned against result upgrade scams
NABTEB advised candidates to access their results only through the board’s official result-checking platform.
The Registrar also warned candidates against individuals who claim they can alter or upgrade examination results.
He stressed that no individual has the authority to change a candidate’s legitimately awarded result.
Candidates can check their results through the official “NABTEB result-checking portal.
The 2026 NBC/NTC examination results provide another indication of improved performance in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education system, with the proportion of candidates meeting the five-credit benchmark, including English and Mathematics, rising by more than 13 percentage points from the previous year.
