The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has appointed Mr S.D. Kum as its new Head of National Office (HNO), effective Friday, October 2, 2026.
Kum, who previously served as the Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration at WAEC Nigeria, succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, who was appointed Registrar of WAEC International in June 2026.
Dangut, who served as WAEC Nigeria’s HNO for nearly three years, is also expected to officially assume his new position at the council’s international headquarters in Accra, Ghana, on Friday.
Kum brings extensive operational and field experience to the position, having served in different capacities across several geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
He previously worked as a WAEC Branch Controller and Zonal Coordinator in various regional offices, including Rivers State, where he was involved in the administration and coordination of examinations.
During his tenure as Zonal Coordinator, Kum played a key role in enforcing the anti-malpractice directives of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC).
He gained prominence in 2022 after issuing de-recognition letters to 35 secondary schools in Rivers State that were indicted for mass cheating and examination malpractice.
Throughout his career, Kum has also worked with state ministries of education, school principals and security agencies to coordinate examination schedules, strengthen examination security and ensure effective administration of WAEC examinations.
His appointment comes as WAEC Nigeria prepares for a new phase under his leadership following Dangut’s transition to the council’s regional headquarters.
