Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has revealed that his family is growing anxious ahead of Monday’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, with his wife eager to know whether he will win the prestigious individual award.
The England captain spoke about the anticipation following Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League, as speculation continues over the identity of this year’s winner.
According to a post by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on X on Friday, Kane said his wife would prefer to know the result immediately, adding that the uncertainty had left his family nervous.
“I understand France Football wishes to keep silent so that all the stars can attend, but from my point of view, of course I would like to know the result without having to wait all evening. I will surely enjoy the evening,” he said.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at the London Palladium. The event is being staged outside Paris for the first time and coincides with the award’s 70th anniversary.
Kane enters the ceremony among the leading contenders after an outstanding 2025/26 season. The Bayern forward scored 73 goals for club and country, helping the German champions secure a domestic double while also delivering strong performances for England.
A victory would make Kane the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001. He could also become Bayern Munich’s first winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed the honour in 1981.
Other leading contenders include Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and reigning winner Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the attention surrounding his candidacy, Kane has sought to remain focused on Bayern’s ongoing campaign. However, he admitted that avoiding the speculation had been difficult.
“I try not to think about it. Obviously it is hard not to. There are always rumours and stuff flying around so you try to stay away from it,” he said.
“We’ll have to just enjoy it and try not to stress out too much.”
With voting completed and the result being kept confidential until the ceremony, Kane and his family will have to wait until Monday evening to discover whether he will claim football’s most prestigious individual award.
