First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic outlook, saying the country is on the path to full economic recovery and sustainable development under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
She made the statement on Friday, 23 October 2026, in Abuja while inaugurating the national headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a political support group mobilising grassroots support for the President ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to a statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady attributed her optimism to growing investor confidence and the expected benefits of the Federal Government’s ongoing economic reforms.
She urged members of the movement to engage Nigerians directly, listen to their concerns and communicate the administration’s policies and programmes to communities across the country.
Oluremi Tinubu said grassroots political engagement should go beyond seeking votes, stressing the importance of understanding the needs and expectations of families, young people, older citizens and women.
She also urged campaigners to promote hope, national unity, peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity. She cautioned members against discriminating against Nigerians because of their political affiliations, insisting that everyone should be treated with respect.
The First Lady commended the movement for extending its activities to 14 states and encouraged its members to expand their outreach as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio also expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s economic policies, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful about the country’s prospects despite the challenges facing the economy.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who also attended the event, said state governments had benefited from the administration’s economic policies through increased revenue allocations. He added that the additional resources had improved the ability of state governments to pay salaries and settle contractors’ bills.
The convener of the movement, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, was represented by High Chief Matthew Tonlagha. The group said it intended to strengthen its nationwide grassroots mobilisation efforts through its newly inaugurated headquarters in Abuja.
The First Lady’s comments come as political activities increase ahead of the 2027 general election. However, her assessment of Nigeria’s economic recovery reflects the administration’s position, and its impact on households and businesses will need to be assessed alongside economic indicators such as inflation, employment, purchasing power and investment.
