The Deputy Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council in Lagos State, Hon. Rasaq Ajala, has urged newly inaugurated campus campaign leaders to prioritise meaningful engagement with students and young people ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ajala made the call on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, while speaking at the inauguration of the Campus Campaign Structure held at Makanjuola Hall, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo.
Representing the campaign council’s Director-General, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Ajala described tertiary institutions as strategic platforms for political engagement, grassroots mobilisation and democratic participation.
He said university campuses were important constituencies for political campaigns because of the significant proportion of young people in Nigeria’s population and their influence on the country’s future.
According to him, the newly established structure would provide an avenue for communicating the campaign’s programmes, understanding students’ concerns and ensuring that their voices were represented in the political process.
Ajala, however, cautioned the campus campaign leaders against limiting their responsibilities to mobilising supporters, urging them to act as ambassadors of the campaign.
He advised them to engage students respectfully, communicate with facts, promote the campaign’s message confidently and recognise the importance of direct interaction.
The former council chairman also emphasised that political support should be earned through convincing ideas, credible programmes and a demonstrated commitment to development.
He urged the campaign leaders to familiarise themselves with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Lagos Promise, which he identified as central messages for their engagement with students and other members of the university community.
Ajala further encouraged young people to view politics as an avenue for positive change and development, while congratulating the organisers and members of the newly inaugurated campus structure.
He called on them to discharge their responsibilities with discipline, unity and dedication, expressing confidence that effective mobilisation and genuine engagement would strengthen the campaign’s presence across tertiary institutions.
