The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has increased the admission quota of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin Ekiti, to 3,300 students.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, disclosed this during the institution’s maiden press conference in Iyin Ekiti on Monday.
Aribisala said the increase followed the rapid growth recorded by the university since it commenced academic activities in January 2026.
FUTES started operations with 1,564 students across 35 departments and four faculties, including Natural and Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Computing and Information Technology, and Environmental Sciences.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university had introduced measures to ensure that admission was based on merit, while also laying the foundation for a world-class institution focused on research, academic excellence, accommodation and a conducive learning environment.
He said the university plans to expand its academic offerings, including programmes in areas such as Medicine, Nursing and Artificial Intelligence.
The increase in the admission quota could provide additional opportunities for prospective students seeking admission into the relatively new institution.
