The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, and National Association of Academic Technologists at Kaduna State University has demanded the immediate implementation of the 2026 Federal Government agreement with non-teaching staff in public universities.

The unions also called on the Kaduna State Government to settle outstanding earned allowances, promotion arrears, pension arrears, wage awards, and the 25 per cent and 35 per cent salary increments due to university workers.

The demands were contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the Joint Action Committee at the KASU union secretariat in Kaduna.

The communiqué was jointly signed by SSANU and JAC Chairperson, Sa’adiyya Mustapha; SSANU Secretary, Nicholas Yakubu; NASU Chairman, Nina Ochigbo; NASU and JAC Secretary, Dahiru Musa; NAAT Chairman, Aliyu Garba; and NAAT Secretary, Bala Aboi.

According to the unions, implementing agreements reached between governments and recognised university unions is important for maintaining industrial peace and preventing further disputes within the university system.

They specifically demanded the payment of outstanding earned allowances, including excess workload allowance, promotion arrears, group life insurance, pension arrears, salary increments and outstanding wage awards.

“The JAC therefore calls on the Kaduna State Government to urgently address these outstanding issues in the interest of industrial harmony and staff welfare,” the unions said.

The development comes amid growing industrial tension at Kaduna State University, where other university-based unions have also raised concerns over welfare, outstanding agreements and conditions of service.

The unions warned that unresolved issues could further affect industrial relations and potentially disrupt academic and administrative activities at the institution.

Beyond staff welfare, the JAC called on the Kaduna State Government to substantially increase funding for KASU, arguing that inadequate financial support could affect teaching, research, innovation, infrastructure and accreditation.

According to the unions, improved funding is necessary to maintain facilities, support research and technological development, improve staff welfare and provide essential teaching and learning resources.

The committee also demanded greater administrative, financial and academic autonomy for the university, saying this would promote efficiency, transparency, accountability and academic excellence.

Expressing concern over the ongoing industrial dispute involving a sister union and the Kaduna State Government, the JAC urged Governor Uba Sani and other relevant stakeholders to resolve the matter quickly through dialogue.

It warned that failure to address the dispute could affect students, parents and staff and potentially lead to further industrial action by other unions.

The unions, however, commended the state government for areas where it had responded positively to their demands and urged it to sustain engagement with university workers by resolving all outstanding issues.

They also appealed to their members to remain calm and united, assuring them that the leadership would continue to pursue their interests through dialogue with the government and the university managem
