A man claiming to be a professor, Jide Josiah Jisos, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, for attempting to impersonate his daughter during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Chief Magistrate Honourable Justice Folashade Oyekan handed down the sentence on October 24, 2024.
Jisos was apprehended by officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at Brix Academy in Abuja, where he posed as a representative from a non-governmental organization (NGO) to gain entry into the examination hall.
His deception came to light after the head of JAMB’s monitoring team questioned his presence, leading Jisos to admit he was there to assist his daughter with the examination.
According to a statement by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Jisos initially presented himself under false pretenses but later confessed during interrogation that he had no affiliation with an NGO. “Unable to substantiate his claims, Jisos was arrested and handed over to security personnel for further investigation,” the statement read.
Justice Oyekan convicted Jisos on a one-count charge of impersonation, sentencing him to six months in prison with an option of a N100,000 fine.
