A Lagos-based school teacher, Stella Nwadigbo, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility until February 18, 2025, over the alleged assault of a three-year-old pupil. The incident, which was captured in a viral video, has sparked widespread outrage across the country.
Nwadigbo, 45, was arraigned before Magistrate Court 1 in Ogba on Thursday, January 9, 2025. The charges against her stem from the disturbing footage showing her maltreating the young child at a primary school in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Following the video’s circulation earlier in the week, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Ikorodu Police Division promptly intervened, arresting Nwadigbo on Wednesday, January 8. After preliminary investigations, she was transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos Command Headquarters.
The young victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for a comprehensive evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, the court ordered Nwadigbo’s remand as investigations and legal proceedings continue.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, commended the public for their vigilance and timely reporting of the incident. “This case reaffirms our dedication to safeguarding children and ensuring justice for victims of abuse. We remain committed to responding swiftly and decisively to such matters,” he stated.
This incident has reignited debates around the enforcement of child protection laws and the pressing need for stricter measures to prevent abuse in educational institutions.
