On July 7, 2024 The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) commenced student loan applications for 36 state-owned universities across the country. Remaining faithful to the order at which it plans to onboard students of the different classifications of tertiary institutions in the country, the management of the Fund made the announcement via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, July 7. The released statement reads:
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is pleased to announce that students enrolled in the following 36 state-owned tertiary institutions can now apply for student loans effective today, 7th July 2024.”
“The management of these institutions has successfully submitted their student data to the NELFUND Student Verification System (SVS).”
It went further to say, “We urge all other state-owned tertiary institutions to submit their complete student data to the NELFUND Student Verification System timely to enable their students to benefit from the scheme.”
Below is a list of the 36 state-owned universities approved and currently onboarded by NELFUND for student loan applications:

Though some may say it’s still in relative infancy, NELFUND is one government agency which is quickly gaining a reputation for fulfilling its promises to the Nigerian people and doing so in a timely fashion.
