The Minister of Education, Dr. Mahruf Tunji, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire outbreak at Makarantar Malam Ghali in Namoda town, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State, which claimed the lives of 17 Almajiri pupils and left 12 others injured.
In a condolence message, the minister extended his sympathies to the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal Dare, the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Maj. Sanusi Mohd Ahmad Asha (Rtd), and the bereaved families. He also wished the injured a swift recovery.
“The Federal Ministry of Education remains committed to supporting the Almajiri population through policies aimed at improving their welfare and ensuring their safety,” the minister said.
He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to implementing a national educational policy for Almajiri education, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to reduce the number of out-of-school children and provide sustainable education for all.
“Together with subnational governments, religious leaders, and local communities, we will develop a lasting solution that enables Almajiri children to thrive and break the cycle of poverty,” Dr. Tunji assured.
He concluded his statement with prayers for the departed souls, saying, *“Allahumma gafirhum, wa rahamhum.”*
