The leadership of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Ondo State command, paid a working visit to the Management of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA t on Tuesday 15th April 2025.The NDLEA team led by the State commander, Nanzing Daniel Salah, stated that their main purpose of visit is to foster better collaboration between the two organisations. He said their mission to FUTA like other institutions is to create awareness, enlightenment, and sensitization on the abuse of hard drug and promote drug free habits among the young and old in the University community.
The State commander advised that FUTA Management in collaboration with NDLEA , should establish a Drug free club that can help to promote the eradication of drug related misdemeanors in the University and help curb social menace at all levels.
Nanzing urged the Management to key into the Drug Integrity test programme which other Universities have also keyed into as it would help to reduce drug use and abuse on campus. He also stated that the Agency has a counseling mechanism that accepts erring persons for rehabilitation and counseling. The State Commander said he would like a situation in future where FUTA takes up the training of rehabilitated drug users in certain professional and vocational endeavors.
Responding the Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, said FUTA is delighted that NDLEA is reaching out to FUTA for a collaboration. She said FUTA and NDLEA are thinking towards the same direction as regards making the society saner, safer, and more secure. Professor Oladiji stated that use and abuse of drug has become a threat and menace to the society at large.
The Vice Chancellor restated that the idea of Drug free club in the institution mooted by the NDLEA boss will be given serious consideration and worked on. She said she is hopeful that in the nearest future the counseling Unit of FUTA and NDLEA would be partners in progress to achieve similar goals and objective.
