Applications are now open for the second edition of the World Bank Disaster & Climate Risk Data Fellowship. This 6-month work placement program is designed for climate and disaster risk professionals, including data scientists and geospatial analysts, from selected climate-vulnerable countries.
The fellowship provides an opportunity to work directly with World Bank operations, gaining access to tools, data, and methodologies for generating and communicating climate and disaster risk knowledge.
Program Details
Initial contract: 6 months (75 days), November 2025 to April 2026.
Fellows may receive a second 6-month extension, depending on performance.
Placements will focus on World Bank projects in climate-vulnerable countries.
Eligible Countries
Applicants must be from one of the following FCV (Fragile, Conflict, and Violence) countries:
Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea-Bissau, Iraq, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Zimbabwe.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should have:
A Master’s or PhD (or be a current graduate student) in climate change, disaster risk management, geospatial technologies, computer science, civil engineering, or related fields.
Experience with digital technologies, data, models, and platforms for disaster risk management.
Demonstrated knowledge of data science or geospatial analytics.
Ability to translate theory into practical policy applications.
Strong communication and advocacy skills, including writing and social media.
Proven teamwork and intercultural collaboration skills.
Proficiency in English.
