Tragedy struck the University of Jos as a 300-level Banking and Finance student, Peter Mafuyai, was allegedly murdered by his colleague, Nanpon Timnan, a 200-level Agricultural Science student.
The incident happened at their off-campus apartment in Rusau Village, Jos North, Plateau State.
According to eyewitnesses, Peter was pleading for his life when Nanpon allegedly attacked him with a machete. One student who tried to intervene said the suspect threatened anyone who came close.
“When Peter tried to escape, he fell, and Nanpon caught up with him and kept hacking him,” the witness recounted.
Security sources said police officers later discovered that the suspect buried Peter in a shallow grave inside his room.His body was exhumed and taken to Bingham University Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
Police have arrested the suspect while investigations continue to determine the motive behind the gruesome act.
The heartbreaking incident has stirred fresh concerns about rising cases of youth violence and campus-related killings across the country.
