University of Benin Receives ₦230.6m NELFUND Loan Disbursement for Student
The University of Benin has acknowledged receiving ₦230,599,250 from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for students who applied for the loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a statement dated January 20, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Edoba B. Omoregie, confirmed that the payment covered two additional tranches of the loan disbursement to students of the university.
Details provided by the institution show that 1,551 students received ₦131,883,750 in the first tranche disbursed on January 5, 2026, while 1,122 students received ₦98,715,500 in the second tranche paid on January 15, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor commended NELFUND and its management board for their efforts in implementing the scheme, describing it as a significant intervention aimed at reducing the financial challenges faced by students.
He also assured that the funds would be utilized in accordance with the guidelines of the scheme to ensure that beneficiaries receive the full benefits of the programme.
The NELFUND initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to expand access to higher education by providing financial support to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.
