A student leader at Yobe State University has lauded the Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, for his leadership in driving the Student Loan Access to Higher Education initiative, describing the programme as transformative for students across Nigeria.
In a message of appreciation, the student leader highlighted the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the foundational role played by the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, in establishing the scheme.
According to the statement, NELFUND under Sawyerr’s leadership has emerged as “a beacon of hope” for over 1.3 million Nigerian students, with its impact being strongly felt at Yobe State University.
The student leader particularly commended Sawyerr’s hands-on approach, noting his engagements with stakeholders across various states as a demonstration of commitment and effective execution of the programme.
“This initiative has changed lives on our campus,” the statement read, adding that students of the institution continue to pray for the sustainability and expansion of the scheme.
The message also expressed optimism about sustained collaboration between NELFUND and Yobe State University, while calling for the seamless continuation of loan and scholarship disbursements to ensure that no student is left behind.
Reaffirming support for the initiative, the student leader described Nigerian students as “partners in progress” and appreciated Sawyerr’s dedication to advancing access to higher education in the country.
