Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved the implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government as it applies to Osun State University.
The implementation has already begun, with the payment of salary arrears owed from January 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, who said the approval covers major components of the agreement reached with academic staff.
The statement added that the package includes the Consolidated Academic Allowance, a newly introduced tax-free Consolidated Tools Allowance, and Professorial Allowances.
According to the university, the initiative is aimed at improving staff welfare, enhancing institutional stability, and ensuring continued industrial harmony within the system.
Reacting to the development, ASUU UNIOSUN Chairman, Dr. Wende Olaosebikan, commended the governor’s action, describing it as timely and a reflection of responsive leadership committed to workers’ welfare.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Wale Oladipo, members of the University Council, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, in ensuring the implementation of the agreement.
The ASUU Ibadan Zone also welcomed the development, describing it as a product of constructive dialogue and urging sustained engagement between government and university unions.
