South Africa—The FirstRand Foundation has honoured outstanding educators at the 2026 National Teaching Awards, with six top-performing teachers set to embark on a project-based international study tour to Denmark.
The event celebrated teachers described as the backbone of society, noting that every doctor, engineer, entrepreneur and leader starts life under the guidance of a teacher.
Organisers said the awards recognise educators who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation and impact in the classroom and wider school communities.
As part of the recognition, six award-winning teachers will travel to Denmark on a fully sponsored study tour aimed at exposing them to global best practices in education and innovative teaching methods.
The initiative, supported by the FirstRand Foundation, is expected to strengthen classroom delivery and improve learning outcomes when the educators return to South Africa.
The organisers urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity, expressing optimism that the exposure will further drive excellence in the country’s education sector.
The teachers are expected to return with fresh ideas aimed at improving teaching and learning across schools nationwide.
