It is neither the size of the body that matters, nor even the size of a country but the size of the heart. While one ‘African’ country chants ‘Ubuntu ubuntu’ with one side of the mouth, but with the other side yells ‘I do not know you’, the gallant and heroic adventures of Cabo Verde at the ongoing World Cup has not only won the heart of the world but has in the last few weeks served as a rallying point for all of black Africa. Well, all but one. How ironic that it took a country of just half a million people to unite us and remind us of our common heritage. So much for the rainbow nation.
And yes, having lost just 3-2 to the current World Cup holders, Argentina, Cabo Verde may have exited the World Cup now but it will take a lot more than that for them to exit the African heart. All hail this African giant.
