If you make money from creating content on X, there is a major change you need to know about.
X is ending its Revenue Sharing programme and replacing it with a new Original Content Rewards programme designed to reward creators for producing original and valuable content on the platform.
Here are 10 things you should know:
1. X is ending its Revenue Sharing programme
X has stopped accepting new applications for its Revenue Sharing programme from August 7, 2026.
However, existing participants will continue earning under the programme until September 7, 2026.
2. A new reward programme is coming
X is introducing the Original Content Rewards programme to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity and commentary to the platform.
The focus is shifting towards creators who actually contribute something valuable rather than simply reposting content.
3. Existing creators will receive final payouts
Creators already enrolled in Revenue Sharing will receive three final payouts.
Two are scheduled for August 14 and August 28, while the final payment for earnings accumulated through September 7 is expected around September 11, 2026.
4. Creators can apply for the new programme from September 8
Existing Revenue Sharing participants will begin getting access to apply for the new programme from September 8, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
The first payout under the new programme is scheduled for August 28, 2026, while existing Revenue Sharing creators who enrol from September 8 will receive their first payment on September 25.
5. Your original content will matter more
Under the new system, eligible creators will earn from qualified impressions generated by their original content.
This can include threads, videos, memes, graphics, illustrations, reporting, analysis, commentary and reactions that add meaningful value to conversations on X.
6. Not every impression will count
X says qualified impressions will come from unique impressions by Premium users on the Home Timeline, where at least 50 per cent of a post is visible.
Repeated impressions from the same account, paid or promoted impressions, artificially generated impressions and fraudulent impressions will not count.
7. You need at least 500 verified followers
To qualify, creators must be at least 18 years old, live in an eligible country and have an account in good standing.
They must also have a personal or business account, subscribe to X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business, have at least 500 verified followers and record at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the previous 90 days.
8. Simply reposting content will not be enough
X wants creators to add something meaningful when using existing content.
That could be original commentary, context, analysis, humour or creative transformation.
Simply downloading and reposting someone else’s video, adding a watermark, cropping it, applying a filter or placing simple text over it will generally not qualify.
9. Some types of content can get you removed
Copied or substantially reproduced content, automated content, disinformation and misleading content will not qualify for rewards.
Creators are also responsible for having the necessary rights, permissions or licences to use content created by others.
Violating the programme’s requirements could result in temporary or permanent removal from the reward system.
10. Originality is becoming more valuable on X
X says the new programme is designed to reward people who start conversations, shape them and move them forward.
