The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a one-time ₦4,000 fee for the verification of candidates’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and other O’Level results during the tertiary admission process.
The two examination bodies made this known in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following consultations on the recently introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB will be required to verify their WAEC results only once through the JAMB Verification Service.
The verified result will subsequently be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
JAMB and WAEC stressed that the ₦4,000 payment is to be made through the designated JAMB platform and not to individual institutions.
The bodies also directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results supplied by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
This means candidates who have completed the verification through JAMB will not be required to pay another fee or repeat the same verification exercise when presenting their credentials to their chosen institutions.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions.
The agencies said the arrangement was designed to reduce the financial and logistical burden on admission seekers, particularly those applying to more than one institution.
Candidates will also be able to initiate the verification process from their homes or any location with internet access, reducing the need for repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
The new arrangement is expected to simplify the admission process while strengthening the verification of candidates’ academic records and reducing the possibility of fraudulent or altered O’Level results being presented during admission.
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates to make use of the approved Verification Service and complete the process once, assuring that successfully verified results would be available to the relevant institutions for admission-related purposes.
The development comes as prospective students continue to navigate the 2026/2027 admission process into Nigerian universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions.
