The programme, delivered in partnership with Comic Relief, will select 15 to 20 storytellers from Nigeria and nine other eligible African countries.

Selected participants will receive training, mentorship, content amplification and grants of up to US$4,000 to develop stories that encourage public conversation and inspire action on climate justice.

According to Africa No Filter, the initiative is seeking creative storytelling ideas that examine how climate change, debt, gender and fossil fuels affect people and communities across the continent.

Applicants may propose stories in formats including video, podcasts, written articles, murals and data visualisations.

Selected storytellers will receive training in climate justice, data storytelling and narrative framing. They will also work with researchers and partners to develop accurate and engaging stories based on research.

Who can apply?

Applicants must:

– Be at least 18 years old;
– Be based in one of the eligible African countries, including Nigeria;
– Have an active platform that has been running for at least one year;
– Be able to demonstrate their reach or standing within their platform or community; and
– Commit to producing at least four pieces of content over a minimum of six months.

Journalists can demonstrate their reach through the circulation of their publication.

Africa No Filter said applications will be assessed based on the originality of the proposed idea, its relevance to the organisation’s mission of storytelling beyond stereotypes, its connection to the gender-debt-fossil fuel focus, and the applicant’s reach or standing within their community or platform.

The organisation highlighted concerns about the growing role of debt in climate finance across Africa, arguing that African countries are often receiving climate financing through loans rather than grants.

The programme seeks to use storytelling to examine these issues and their impact on African communities.

The application deadline is September 25, 2026.

Interested journalists and storytellers can submit their applications through the “Africa No Filter application page”
