Sixteen students of Babcock University have praised FramExpo West Africa for providing a platform to develop their creative skills, gain industry insights and connect with established professionals in the film and content creation industry.

The three-day event, held from November 2 to 4 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together budding content creators, photographers, filmmakers and skit makers for exhibitions, panel discussions and masterclasses.

The Babcock delegation, comprising members of the Babcock Creativity Network (BCN), described the experience as transformative, highlighting opportunities to learn new production techniques, explore creative equipment and establish valuable professional connections.

Vice-President of BCN, Ezekiel Stu, a videographer specialising in gospel music videos, identified his meeting with renowned director, Director Imam, as one of the most memorable moments of the expo.

Stu said the encounter gave him an opportunity to interact with a professional whose work he had admired, ask questions and receive feedback on his creative productions.

He said, “I got to meet one of my industry idols. He produces videos for the likes of The Scene, Mercy Chinwo and others. He answered all my questions, he was so friendly, and when I showed him one of my latest videos, he said, ‘this is perfect, this is so sweet.’ To crown it all, he gave me his number.”

Another BCN member, Oghojafor Oghenemaro, highlighted the Sony Masterclass as a major learning experience, particularly its sessions on camera selection, lighting and visual storytelling.

According to her, the masterclass introduced participants to suitable cameras for content creation and filmmaking, including affordable options capable of delivering quality results.

She also explained that the session explored how lighting influences the mood and meaning of visual productions, with different colours communicating distinct emotions.

BCN Creative Director, Olusanya Oluwaseyi, said the expo expanded her understanding of the technical and creative processes involved in production.

She noted that participants learnt the importance of lighting, framing, camera settings and storytelling, stressing that effective production requires proper planning to ensure every element supports the creative vision.

Oluwaseyi added that the event exposed students to the wide range of career opportunities available behind the camera, including production, lighting, sound, technical operations, logistics and set design.

She described the expo as “a Comic-Con for creatives”, noting the extensive display of cameras, lighting equipment and other production tools.

She also expressed appreciation to Babcock University for providing the students with the opportunity to attend, adding that FramExpo had previously contacted BCN as part of its campus tour initiative.

Founder of FramExpo West Africa, Uchechukwu Okoro, said the event was established to equip emerging creatives with the knowledge, skills and industry exposure needed to succeed in the creative sector.

Industry professionals, including Olukanmi Abayomi of Abasi Production, King Martins of Pixxel Factory and Ayo Bankole of Caladium Consulting, shared practical insights, discussed their professional experiences and engaged participants through interactive question-and-answer sessions.

The participation of the Babcock students underscored the importance of industry exposure, practical training and professional networking in preparing young creatives for opportunities in the growing film and content creation industry.
