The Sokoto State Government has earmarked more than N6 billion for the construction of three mega schools as part of efforts to tackle overcrowding and improve access to quality basic education across the state.
The Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, disclosed this in Sokoto on September 15, 2026, during a press briefing to mark the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
According to Tambuwal, the construction of the three mega schools is part of the state government’s intervention in the basic education sector. The projects are expected to provide additional learning spaces for pupils and help ease pressure on existing schools experiencing overcrowding.
The investment comes amid continuing concerns over access to adequate learning facilities in parts of Nigeria, where population growth and increased demand for education have placed pressure on available classrooms and other school infrastructure.
The Sokoto SUBEB chairman said the mega-school projects were among the interventions being pursued by the state government to improve the quality of basic education. The projects are expected to complement other investments in school infrastructure and educational facilities across the state.
The development is significant for pupils and teachers in communities where existing schools have struggled to accommodate increasing numbers of learners. Additional classrooms and purpose-built facilities could provide more space for teaching and learning once the projects are completed.
