The National Universities Commission has approved 30 new academic programmes for the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval also covers the commencement of academic activities by the university’s Faculty of Law, including the full-time Bachelor of Laws programme in Common and Islamic Law. The development was announced by the university on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. ([Tribune Online][1])
According to a statement signed by the university’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, the approval was contained in a letter dated September 11, 2026, with reference number NUC/AP/F33/VOL.II/15 and signed by the Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, Abubakar M. Among the newly approved undergraduate programmes are Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, Community Health, Medical Laboratory Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy, Radiography and Optometry.
The university also listed programmes in Parasitology and Entomology, Environmental Standards, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Applied Geology and Remote Sensing, Science Laboratory Technology, Arabic Education and English Education among the newly approved courses. ([Tribune Online][1])
The approval further covers several education programmes, including Education Physics, Education Biology, Education Mathematics, Educational Management, Early Childhood Education and Adult Education.
At postgraduate level, the NUC approved PGD, Master’s and PhD programmes in areas including Forestry and Wildlife, Accounting, Treasury and Finance, Banking and Finance and Information Technology. Master’s programmes in Banking and Finance and Accounting and Finance were also approved. ([Tribune Online][1])
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutse, Professor Ahmad Mohammed-Gumel, described the approval as a significant step in the institution’s academic expansion.
He said the new programmes were designed to respond to emerging educational needs, particularly in technology, science education and health-related disciplines.
According to him, the expansion is intended to provide students with relevant knowledge and skills that reflect changing industry requirements and contemporary societal challenges. ([NEWSVERGE][2])
The development is expected to expand the range of options available to prospective students seeking admission to Federal University Dutse for the 2026/2027 academic session, subject to the university’s admission processes and relevant regulatory requirements.
With the addition of programmes in artificial intelligence, data science, information systems, health sciences and law, the university is also expanding into disciplines linked to emerging technology, professional training and the growing demand for specialised skills.
