The Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has distributed 20 operational vehicles to monitoring and evaluation officers across the 16 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the state to strengthen school supervision and quality assurance.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony in Ado Ekiti, SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, said the initiative was aimed at improving monitoring, supervision and data collection in public primary schools across the state.
According to him, the vehicles will enhance the ability of monitoring and evaluation officers to carry out regular school visits and provide timely reports to support education planning and decision-making.
“The vehicles will enhance school supervision, data collection and timely reporting by monitoring and evaluation officers,” Akinwumi said.
He added that the improved mobility would enable officers to access hard-to-reach schools, monitor compliance with established standards and provide data needed for effective policy formulation.
Akinwumi described the distribution as evidence of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to strengthening education delivery and improving operational efficiency within the basic education sector.
He also urged beneficiaries to use the vehicles responsibly and ensure proper maintenance.
The Permanent Secretary of the Board, Michael Omolayo, said the procurement and distribution of the vehicles demonstrated the commitment of the state government and SUBEB management to improving the quality of basic education.
“Effective monitoring and evaluation remain central to quality assurance in the basic education sub-sector,” he said.
Omolayo noted that inadequate logistics often hinder effective supervision, adding that the provision of the vehicles would enable field officers to perform their duties more efficiently.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Human Resources Management, Dr. Olufunke Fajobi, said the initiative aligns with the state government’s human capital development agenda.
She commended the SUBEB chairman for prioritising staff welfare and operational efficiency, stressing that a motivated workforce is essential to improving learning outcomes.
The Commissioner for Project Management, Kayode Adeoye, said the vehicles would also support effective monitoring of SUBEB projects, ensuring quality delivery and accountability.
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba, represented by the UBEC State Coordinator, Tokunbo Olajubu, praised the initiative and reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to supporting basic education development across the country.
Garba said Ekiti had continued to distinguish itself in the utilisation of UBEC matching grants and the implementation of education programmes.
The event was attended by SUBEB board member, Alhaja Lateefat Arilewola, directors of the board, Education Secretaries from the 16 LGEAs, Headmaster-Generals and the beneficiary monitoring and evaluation officers.
